TCeurope

The 2005 TecDocNet project was aimed at providing an inventory of routes to professional education and training of technical communicators in Europe. It was realised with the support of the Commission of the European Communities under the Leonardo da Vinci programme. The content does not necesarily reflect the Commission’s position on this subject.

The resulting publication is by now up for review and in many respects overtaken by later insights and projects, most notably the Infopool project. Nevertheless, we wish to keep it available for download. It provides information on:

• The definition of Technical Communication
• The state of the profession and the future challenges for the profession
• Current challenges for the profession
• A general description of the profession
• Salary levels
• The required personal aptitudes
• The required competencies on entry, professional and expert level
• Ways of qualifying
• Certification

In addition to this publication, a database of universities and experts was compiled. The information contained in the database however has not been updated since, and it is deemed inappropriate to keep its contents in the public domain. Partners to the project, whose efforts went into compiling the database, are invited to contact the TCeurope Secretary for a copy at any time. These partners are:
